Back in the day, when we were kids at sleepaway camp, meals were “basic”—nothing fancy or over-the-top—just plain, old-fashioned food and to drink, “bug juice”.
Ahhh, how times have changed! Now, meals are more of a celebration, each one an event. And there’s so much more to the food itself. The proof is in the proverbial pudding.
Campers coming to Camp Big this September will not only enjoy three delicious buffet meals daily (breakfast, lunch and dinner) with dinners being themed, but you will also learn, gather tips and tricks and be regaled with all kinds of food-related stories from the Master—Master chef Ben Robinson, that is—who’ll be around all weekend. Even more exciting, Ben will host his food demo on Sunday, September 15 for all campers who wish to attend. He will share anecdotes, his experiences, perhaps a recipe or two and much more. While we’d love to share all the details with you now, we must keep it a surprise, so if you are a fan of food—and Ben—be sure to come to Camp Big for this must-see demo.
So now that we’ve whet your appetite, let’s talk about what you’ll be dining on while you’re here at camp. Friday is “Southern Style Living” featuring fabulous dishes such as Fried Chicken, Mountain Trout and Brunswick Stew.
On Saturday, get set to “boogie down” with Camp Big’s Super ‘70s Night with Italian specialties such as Chicken Marsala, pasta and a variety of desserts such as Yodels, Laffy Taffy, Pop Rocks and more! You may remember all of these sweet treats from your childhood days, and now, they’re making a comeback.
And then there’s Sunday dinner—BBQ Night —with mouth-watering favorites including Chicken, Pork and Ribs. Afterwards, you can make your own S'mores by the campfire. Yum!
Naturally, each day, the breakfast and lunch buffets will include a variety of “morning faves” and “good and good for you” fare. Camp Big’s chefs always have a surprise or two up their sleeves so get ready to be wowed by everything you taste. After all, whether eating is your main activity or you choose to participate in the many other wonderful outdoor activities available to campers each day, feeding your body and getting enough energy is a must. So, get ready to eat, indulge and enjoy.
